Camels gear up for HPU VertKlasse Meeting

HPU VertKlasse Meeting Schedule

The Campbell track & field squad is set to compete at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting this weekend, with events running all day on Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1. Saturday's events will be streamed live at the 'Video' link above beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The meet features 1,572 athletes from 47 different schools, including Big South members Campbell, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Liberty, Radford and UNC Asheville. Live results will be provided throughout the day via Flash Results at the 'Live stats' tab above, and a full breakdown of the meet schedule can be viewed here.

Campbell will begin the meet Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the men's and women's long jump. Lorne Jenkins, Alize Graham, Noah Tyson and Chase Edwards are entered on the men's side, while Jullia Morris and Deonica Reid will represent the Campbell women.

Friday night will feature the distance events. Campbell senior Amina Alvarez Barkane will compete in the women's 1500m, while the freshman trio of Graeme Fisher, Travis Gallimore and Billy Knabe are entered in the men's 1500m. In the women's 5K, Madeline Fitch, Ali Bowen and Jade Baldwin are set to compete, while Knabe and Hunter Gilbert will represent CU on the men's side.

Day two of the meet will feature mid-distance, sprints, hurdles, triple jump and and high jump for the Fighting Camels. Kelvin Kirui, who holds the Campbell record in the men's indoor 800m, is set to make his Campbell debut in the outdoor 800m. Freshman Casper Duell will also compete in the 800m, while Kelsey Rea, Kaelyn Yoder and Brianna Meyrick are entered in the women's 800m.

Assistant Coach Alan Quinn's sprints and hurdles group will be well-represented at the meet. Campbell has seven entries in the women's 100m dash as Lilla Juhasz, Sabina Allen, Reid, Janai Scott, Isis Brooks, Shenelle McKay and Morris are set to compete. On the men's side, Jenkins, Daequon Carr, Graham and Nate Tyson will run the 100m dash.

Scott, Racheal Brown, Brooks and Morris will also run the women's 200m. Carr, Collin Cooper, Jacob Carter and Noah Tyson are entered in the men's 200m dash. In the 400m, Brown and Tatiana Wolfe will represent the Campbell women, while Chigozie Atavwigho, Cooper, Ka'Deem Wynn and Carter will compete on the men's side.

CU will have one competitor in the women's 100m hurdles as Juhasz is set to compete. She currently holds the school record in that event with a mark of 13.29 that she set in 2015. Marcus Mize is set to make his season debut in the 110m hurdles for the Campbell men.

Tatiana Wolfe is entered in the women's 400m hurdles, an event where she holds the school record with a time of 59.43 that she posted last season. Mize and Atavwigho are set to compete the 400m hurdles on the men's side.

For Saturday's field events, 2017 Big South indoor individual champion Davian Rhodes, Edwards and Nate Tyson will represent the Campbell men in the high jump, while McKay will compete on the women's side. Campbell record-holder Allen will triple jump for the Camels, while Jenkins and Noah Tyson are entered in the men's triple jump.

CU is entered in the men's and women's 4x100m and 4x400m relays, with teams yet to be determined. The meet will end with the men's 4x400m, set for a 5:30 p.m. start on Saturday.
