Nine Camels qualify for NCAA East Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Fighting Camels will have nine athletes competing at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, as the start lists were released Thursday afternoon. The regional meet will be hosted by the University of Kentucky next week from Thursday to Saturday, May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky.

Sabina Allen will make her second-straight NCAA Regional appearance as she qualified in both the women's long jump and triple jump. The Spanish Town, Jamaica native broke her own all-time Big South long jump record with a personal-best 6.22m performance at the 2017 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She notched her season-best mark in the triple jump at the Campbell Open, placing first overall with a mark of 12.72m.

Chigozie Atavwigho will make his NCAA Regional debut as he represents CU in the men's 400m hurdles. The sophomore posted a personal-best mark of 52.22 at the conference meet to place second overall and earn his first outdoor all-conference honors as an individual.

Lorne Jenkins will compete in his second-consecutive regional meet as he qualified in the men's long jump. The recent Campbell graduate shattered his PR with a 7.67m performance at the Big South Outdoor Championships, good for the third-best jump in program history. That mark currently ranks 23rd in the region this season.

Lilla Juhasz qualified for Regionals for the third-straight season with a season-best mark of 13.56 in the women's 100m hurdles. The seven-time Big South Conference champion and 15-time all-conference honoree posted her qualifying mark at the Gamecock Invitational, placing seventh overall in a field of elite hurdlers.

Amon Kemboi will continue his breakout freshman campaign as he is set to compete in the men's 5K at the regional meet. Earlier this year, he broke the all-time Campbell record with a mark of 13:47.77 at the Mt. SAC Relays, good for the fifth-best mark in the region this season.

Joan Maritim is set to make her second-career appearance in the NCAA East Prelims, qualifying in the women's 10K with a program-best mark of 34:35.83. The Kasok, Kenya native broke her own Campbell record at the Raleigh Relays as she finished 12th among an elite field of distance runners.

Shenelle McKay will make her NCAA Regionals debut as she represents CU in the women's high jump. She posted her qualifying mark at the Aggie Last Chance Meet this past weekend, clearing a height of 1.73m that ranked T-38th in the region.

Davian Rhodes also notched his regional qualifying mark at the Aggie Last Chance Meet after clearing a season-best 2.09m in the men's high jump. The Shelby, N.C. native is set to make his third-straight Regionals appearance.

Amon Terer is the first athlete in Campbell history to qualify for his fourth-consecutive NCAA East Regional, as he will compete alongside Kemboi in the men's 5K. The five-time All-American set his season-best mark at the Payton Jordan Invite with a personal-best time of 13:50.25, making him the No. 7 seed in the regional event.
