Women's Golf ninth after 18 holes of Palmetto IntercollegiateKIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Sarah Bejgrowicz is tied for 11th place and Campbell stands ninth on the team leader board after Monday's first round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Club.
Each of Campbell's golfers sits among the top 48 individuals in the 92-player field after 18 holes on the par-71, 5912-yard Oak Point layout. Bejgrowicz, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., shot a first-round 72 and is five strokes off the pace set by Leigh Whittaker of host College of Charleston.
Abby Fitzgerald of Kennesaw State is second at three-under 68, followed by Carina Cuculiza of Miami and Emma Jonsson of Morehead State at two-under 69.
Campbell's collective efforts yielded 53 pars (third-most in the field) and 10 birdies over the first 18 holes. Bejgrowicz had 13 pars and was two-under on the par-5 holes.
Campbell junior Michelle Koh is tied for 17th place at two-over-par 73. CU senior Sandra Angulo is in a five-way tie for 44th that includes teammates Teresa Urquizu and Kaylin Yost at plus-six 77.
Kennesaw State leads the 18-school field after a two-under-par 282 Monday morning. Host CofC is second at plus-three 287, followed by Western Carolina (291), Morehead State (293) and East Tennessee State (294).
Coastal Carolina is sixth (295), followed by Kansas (296), Jacksonville State (297), Campbell (299) and Miami (302) to round out the top 10. Monday morning's 15-over 299 marked the low round of the fall season for Campbell.
The 54-hole tournament continues with Monday afternoon's second round, followed by Tuesday's final round that starts at 8:38 a.m.
