NORMAN, OKLA. – Teresa Urquizu shot a two-over-par 74 and Campbell carded a 301 Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Central Regional women's golf championship at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
A senior from San Sebastian, Spain, Urquizu made 15 pars and one birdie on the par-72, 6298-yard layout. Freshman Tahnia Ravnjak shot 75, sophomore Lisbeth Brooks 76, junior Kaylin Yost 76 and sophomore Brooke Bellomy 77.
Emily Collins of Oklahoma shot a 5-under 67 to claim the first round lead by one stroke over Elcin Ulu of Florida (68). Urquizu is tied for 48th, Ravnjak is 64th, Brooks and Yost stand in 77th and Bellomy in 99th place in the 126-player field.
Florida (282) leads the 24-school field at 6-under-282, followed by Oklahoma (283), Duke (284), TCU (290), Michigan State (291) and UC-Davis (291). Mississippi State, Arizona State, Wisconsin and Indiana are tied for 7th place at 4-over 292.
Campbell and Illinois State are tied for 18th. The top eight teams and two individuals not on those qualifying squads will advance to the NCAA Championship that will be played May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Club in Athens.
