BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head coach Phil Schuman has announced the women's lacrosse fall schedule for 2013. The offseason slate includes three play days and two scrimmages in September and October.
"Obviously, we are excited to be back on the field and competing. We welcome 13 new players to our roster this year and these fall competition dates give us an opportunity to allow them to get acclimated to the college game," Schuman said. "We are excited to see what we can do as a program with a full roster. While wins and losses in the fall don't count for anything, we will thoroughly evaluate our overall performance to gauge where we are from a recruiting and program building perspective."
Along with the newcomers, the Camels will return 12 players from their inaugural season as fall practice kicks off Sept. 2. CU will host Queens University Sat., Sept. 21 in a controlled practice and scrimmage on the lacrosse practice field.
Campbell will travel the next three weekends for play days across N.C. and S.C. Schedules for each weekend will be released on a later date. On Sept. 28, the Camels will visit Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. followed by a trip to Big South opponent High Point University Oct. 5. The Camels' final play day will be at Coastal Carolina on Sun., Oct. 13.
On Sat., Oct. 12 at 4:00 p.m., Campbell will participate in a scrimmage against the Chanticleers in Wilmington. The event, held at Cape Fear Academy, will double as a charity event and as an initiative to promote the game of lacrosse in eastern N.C., a nontraditional area for the sport. More details about the event will be announced in September.
The Camels enter into their second preseason after finishing their inaugural year 6-7.
