BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Going for its fourth-straight Southern Conference win of the season, Campbell hosts Davidson on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Gore Arena.
There are five Fighting Camels who look to extend their undefeated record in the Southern Conference, while the Camels are 3-1 overall this season, splitting two matches last week.
Campbell took a victory against the Gardner-Webb 29-9 Jan. 23 in Boiling Springs. Redshirt-sophomore Cody Ryba (4-5, 3-1) earned his second major decision of the year at 174 pounds over Aaron Rabin 12-2. Freshman Ville Heino (9-10, 3-0) followed up with a major decision victory of his own, 16-6, over Zach Bennett at 184 pounds.
CU battled against NC State the next day, falling to the Wolfpack 34-10, its first loss of the season. Junior Paul Duggan (9-5, 1-2) notched the first Camel win of the night earning four points with a 10-2 major decision over Max Rohskopf at 165 pounds. Heino remained perfect on the year moving to 4-0 after defeating Shayne Brady, 8-7, at 187 pounds.
Heino leads the team in duals this season at an undefeated 4-0. Freshman Tyler Walker (125 pounds) is the only other undefeated Camel in dual matches at 3-0. Ryba and sophomore Taylor McGiffen (197 pounds) are each 3-1 in dual meets this year and remain unbeaten in SoCon action, 3-0.
The Wildcats sit at 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the SoCon. The Wildcats are on a five-match skid, most recently falling to Franklin & Marshall 27-7 and The Citadel 15-26 on Monday. Davidson's Kevin Birmingham (149 pounds) is 15-5 overall and is 3-0 in the league. Donald Patrick (184 pounds) is also undefeated in the league at 2-0 and stands 17-2 overall.
CU leads the series 25-6, taking the last three matches. Last year, the Camels won in Davidson 40-12.
The Fighting Camels are back at home for three-straight matches, taking on Chattanooga Feb. 8, The Citadel Feb. 13, and SIUE Feb. 19.
