ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Nathan Kraisser picked up an individual title and a pair of Camels earned runner-up finishes and a third place finisher at the Navy Classic, Saturday on the campus of the Naval Academy.
As a team, Campbell finished in fifth place with 85 points, as Indiana captured the team crown with 155.5 total points.
In the 125-pound weight class, Kraisser advanced with a 15-0 tech fall over Kent State's Drew Dickson. He earned a 22-7 tech fall against Bucknell's Jordan Gessner, then advanced to the final with a fall at 5:28 against Binghampton's Steve Bulzomi. Kraisser won the title with a 10-4 decision against Ohio's Shakur Laney.
Perez opened up his day in the 165-pound bracket with a 19-6 major decision against Navy's AJ Alford, after trailing 6-0 in the match. He continued his run with an 18-2 tech fall against Kent State's Isaac Bast, and a fall at 3:59 against Bucknell's Brian Lapham. He advanced to the final with a 15-13 victory against Binghampton's Vincent Deprez. He fell to Indiana's Bryce Martin by a 9-6 decision in the final.
Jere Heino started his day at 285-pounds with an 11-3 major decision win against Binghampton's Connor Calkins. He followed that up with a fall at 1:39 over Navy's Andrew Piehl. He advanced to the final with an 8-3 victory over Indiana's Fletcher Miller. Delaware Valley's Zach Roseberry edged Heino in the final, as he earned a 5-3 decision win.
Ville Heino began his tournament at 184-pounds with 10-4 decision against Navy's Anthony Cable. He continued into the semifinals with a 13-3 major decision victory over Kent State's Jerald Spohn. Binghampton's Steven Schneider claimed a 6-1 decision to send Heino into wrestlebacks, where he defeated Bucknell's Garrett Hoffman by major decision 13-5. He finished off the day with a 10-1 major decision victory against Navy's Ryan Harman to claim third place.
Also at 165-pound, Alex Herringshaw took home a fourth place finish for Campbell. In his first match, Herringshaw fell in a 9-8 decision to Bucknell's DJ Hollingshead. In wrestlebacks, he earned a 12-5 decision against The Citadel's Russ Hill II. He then won by a fall 1:25 into the match against Delaware Valley's Austin Ross. He knocked off Lapham and Brown's Christian LaBrie to advance to the third place match, where he fell to Deprez.
Campbell will return to action December 4 at the Journeymen Tussle, followed by its first Southern Conference match, at Applachian State, December 14 at 7 p.m.
