Camels drop Saturday dual to Old Dominion

HAMPTON, VA. - Old Dominion slipped by Campbell, 19-16, Saturday morning at the Virginia Duals. The matchup was a battle in the Bronze bracket of competition as both teams advanced after their respective victories Friday afternoon.

Nathan Kraisser capped off a perfect 4-0 weekend of competition, while Ville Heino, Jere Heino, Jonathan Ryan all finished the weekend with a 3-1 mark.

The dual began at the 125-pound matchup as N.Kraisser won via fall at 56 seconds of the first period over Steven Simpson. This was the third fall victory of the weekend, as he won just 16 seconds into his second bout Saturday afternoon. Ryan won the 133-pound match with a 12-1 major decision over Josh Markham, which gave Campbell a 10-0 advantage.

After a pair of close decision losses, Campbell bounced back at 157-pounds as Austin Kraisser notched a 10-3 victory over Austin Eads, which gave CU a 13-6 lead. ODU took 13 straight points against the Camels, to take a 19-13 lead. At the 285-pound matchup, J.Heino earned a 7-2 decision over Will Hilliard.

Multiple Camels dropped tight decisions on the morning. At the 184-pound match, V. Heino dropped a slim 6-3 decision to no. 7 Jack Dechow. In the 141-pound bout, Joshua Heil fell 4-2 in the first tie-break period. John Weiss dropped a 4-3 decision at the 165-pound match and Alex Herringshaw fell 9-7 in the 174-pound contest.

Campbell returns back to action inside Carter Gym, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. as it takes on Gardner-Webb in Southern Conference action. This is the 2016-17 home-opener for CU wrestling.
