BUIES CREEK, N.C. - With the season nearly three months old, Campbell wrestling will have its home opener, Friday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. inside Carter Gym against Southern Conference foe Gardner-Webb.
GWU comes to Campbell with a 4-2 overall dual record and a 1-0 mark in the Southern Conference. Campbell enters Friday's dual with a 4-6 overall dual record and a 0-1 record in conference action.
Most recently, Campbell competed at the Virginia Duals, where it went 1-3 on the weekend. The victory for the Camels came against Kent State in the first matchup of the Bronze bracket, a 26-16 victory. CU dropped a pair of close duals earlier in competition to Bucknell (23-15) and Arizona State (23-20).
Nathan Kraisser highlighted the weekend for Campbell, going a perfect 4-0, including three pins. Two of Kraisser's pins occurred within the first minute of the match. He pinned Josh Kramer of Arizona State at the 16 second mark of the first period. Against Old Dominion he knocked off Steven Jackson at the 56 second mark of the opening period. Ville Heino, Jere Heino, Jonathan Ryan all finished the Virginia Duals with 3-1 records.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' lone win in conference came at home against VMI, a 29-13 victory on Dec. 9. They picked up seven individual victories, including a tech fall at 174-pounds and pins at 141-pounds and 149-pounds.
Last season against GWU, Campbell fell 31-10 on the road. CU picked up two individual victories on the day, a fall from Kraisser at the 133-pound bout and a major decision victory at 141-pounds from Lucas Stewart.
Campbell returns to action Jan. 28 at Chattanooga with a noon start. The dual is a rescheduled matchup from an earlier date that was postponed due to inclement weather.
