SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell sophomore Jere Heino has earned Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week accolades for competition between Jan. 25-31.
Heino, ranked No. 32 in the NCAA Coaches Panel, knocked off No. 10 Jared Johnson, Saturday Jan. 28.
The Helsinki, Finland native trailed 4-3 late in the match, but recorded a two-point takedown and a four-point near fall to secure the 9-4 victory. With the win, he earned three team points to give CU the 21-19 win.
Campbell's victory over Chattanooga is the first in program history and the 21 points is the most it has recorded against Chattanooga.
This week's award is the third for Campbell on the year and first in Heino's career.
The Camels (6-6, 2-1) will host the Davidson Wildcats (0-3, 3-10) in SoCon action, Thursday at 6 p.m. in Carter Gym. Thursday's dual is Togas and Takedowns, wear your toga and come support the Camels.
