Camels host SIUE Saturday at noon

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Riding a four-match winning streak, Campbell wrestling hosts SIU-Edwardsville Saturday, Feb. 11 at noon, inside historic Carter Gym.

The Camels most recently defeated The Citadel, 31-12, in their final road contest of the 2016-17 season. Campbell sprinted to a 20-0 lead in the opening four matches en route to the 19-point victory.

Freshman Joshua Heil and senior Ville Heino improved to 5-0 in conference action. Sophomores Jere Heino and Willie Bivens III improved to 4-1 in conference competition.

Campbell's 4-1 conference record places them second in league play, ahead of Chattanooga who is 4-2 in SoCon action. Appalachian State sits atop the league standings with a perfect 6-0 record.

Last time out for Campbell:

· Campbell downed The Citadel in convincing fashion, 31-12, Sunday Feb. 5 in Charleston, S.C.

· Ville Heino and Willie Bivens III kicked off the dual with first period falls. Heino won at 2:18 of the first in the 184-pound contest and Bivens win in just 89 seconds of his 197 matchup.

· Jere Heino and Nathan Kraisser added to the scoreline as J. Heino won by a 6-0 decision and Kraisser won via tech fall, 16-0, 3:51 into his match.

· The Citadel closed the game to 11, 23-12, with two matches remaining, but Quentin Perez picked up an 18-2 tech fall at 165 and John Weiss won by an 8-2 decision at 174 to cap off the dual for Campbell.

· Nathan Kraisser sits at No. 12 in TheOpenMat, No. 14 in the InterMat and WIN rankings, No. 16 in the TrackWrestling rankings, and No. 17 in the FloWrestling 125-pound rankings. He also remains at No. 11 in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings.

· Ville Heino currently is ranked at No. 18 in TheOpenMat and the InterMat rankings, No. 25 in the TrackWrestling rankings, and No. 19 in the FloWrestling 184-pound rankings. He is also No. 22 in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings.

· Jere Heino remains at No. 19 in the FloWrestling rankings at 285-pounds.

· Campbell sits at No. 18 in the NWCA Mid-Major Top-20, as of Jan. 26. The poll does not reflect Campbell's last three victories.

Scouting the opponent:

· SIUE's dual against Campbell is the second of a southern swing, after its 31-9 win at The Citadel

· The Cougars boast a 4-10 overall record and 4-2 in the Southern Conference. Its four victories came against The Citadel (31-9), VMI (39-7), Davidson (42-4), and Gardner-Webb (21-17).

· Jake McKiernan (285-pounds) leads the team with a 21-7 overall record, including a conference record of 3-2.

· Freddie Rodriguez has a 15-6 overall record, 3-2 conference record at 125, and Jake Tindle posts a 15-9 overall record and 4-1 conference mark.

· Most recently against Davidson, McKiernan, Rodriguez, John Muldoon, and Jake Residori recorded falls in the win. McKiernan (285) and Rodriguez's (125) were in the first minute of their respective matches.
