BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell took its fourth-straight game, as it defeated Francis Marion 3-2 at Eakes Athletic Complex on Saturday. Juniors Kellsey Costello-Mays and Alexis Prada, along with freshman Payton Ormsby netted the Camel goals on two assists from freshman Kine Thorsvik and one from freshman Murita Storey.
Francis Marion got on the scoreboard first in the 18th minute of play. Yasmin Bunter passed a ball up from the midfield to Caroline Edmonds running down the right flank. She sent a cross in to Chanel Harris, who took on the CU defender and put it past goalkeeper Alexis Connors.
In the 30th minute, Francis Marion's Dominique Evans received a red card, giving the Camels a one-player advantage for the rest of the game.
Campbell tied the game at 1 as Thorsvik earned her second assist of the year off a cross from the right side into Costello-Mays, who took a one touch shot into the back of the net.
CU ended the half with five shots taken to Francis Marion's four. Alexis Connors registered one save in the period.
The Camels took the lead in the 61st minute as Thorsvik took on a defender on the right side and sent a cross to the left box, where Ormsby had a one-touch shot for the 2-1 lead.
Ten minutes later, Storey had another Camel cross from the right flank, where Prada launched a shot from the top of the box for the third and final Campbell goal.
FMU's Elizabeth Asare notched the final goal of the game, as she dribbled through the midfield and took on a CU defender in the left side of the box, having an open shot, bringing the score to 3-2.
Campbell ended the game with 14 shots to the Patriots' 7.
The Camels are back in action Friday in Richmond, Va. at the VCU Invitational. CU will play Richmond Friday at 5:00 p.m. and the host Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
