BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell travels to Richmond, Va. on Friday to participate in the VCU Tournament at Sports Backers Stadium. The Camels (4-1-0) will take on Richmond Friday at 5:00 p.m. and will see the tournament host Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Camels look for fifth-straight win Friday
Since falling in its first game of the season, Campbell has rallied to string together four straight wins since Aug. 30, including winning its past two games at home. The last time the Camels won five in a row was Sept. 23 to Oct. 6, 2011.
Campbell's freshmen hold the top spot in every CU offensive statistical category. After netting a goal in each home match, Payton Ormsby leads the Camels and is tied for second in the Big South for goals scored with four. Lilja Bjork leads both her team and the league in assists at four. After her hat trick against Mount Olive, Kine Thorsvik has three goals and three assists, second for the Camel in each category. Scouting the Spiders (1-4-1)
The Spiders have dropped three in a row, falling to Villanova, Princeton, and No. 6 Virginia. Richmond has scored four goals this season, with Becca Wann netting two. Devin O'Brien has started all six games in goal, collecting 29 saves for a .690 save percentage.
Previewing the Rams (2-4-0)
The Rams are coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Big South opponent Coastal Carolina at the College of Charleston Tournament. This weekend will be the fourth-straight tournament VCU has played this season. The Rams have scored seven goals this year, as Taryn Cressy and Maren Johnansen have scored two each. Goalkeeper Emma Kruse has made 42 saves with a .724 save percentage.
The Camels will see Richmond for the first time in team history. Against VCU, CU is 1-1 with the Rams. The teams last met in 2000, as the Rams took the 1-0 win. The Camels have outscored the Rams 4-1 in the two contests, as CU took the first meeting in 1995 4-0.
