BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In search of its first Big South victory, Campbell hosts Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m. Saturday at Eakes Athletic Complex for Family Weekend. The Camels (4-6-0, 0-3-0) are looking to break a five-game skid as the Bulldogs (2-8-1, 0-3-0 BSC) seek their first win in the Creek since 2006.
Camels Look for Offensive Spark (4-6-0, 0-3-0 BSC)
Campbell is still in search of its first Big South win as the team has been scoreless in the last five games. Wednesday, the Camels fell at home for the first time this season to Radford 2-0. The Campbell offense has been led by freshmen this year, as Payton Ormsby has netted four goals for the Camels followed by Kine Thorsvik with three and Lilja Bjork with two. Bjork leads both the team and the Big South in assists with four while Thorsvik has taken 20 shots for CU. In the nets, Alexis Connors and Samantha Lawson have both seen substantial minutes. Connors has made 22 saves on the season and one Big South start, while Lawson has earned two league starts with 16 saves.
Scouting the Bulldogs (2-8-1, 0-3-0 BSC)
Gardner-Webb has also dropped five in a row, including its first three Big South games. Wednesday, the Bulldogs fell 7-0 at Coastal Carolina. Shelby Hooe leads her team with five goals and three assists. Keeper Amy Schmitt has played in goal the entire season, making 69 saves with a .742 save percentage. The Camels and Bulldogs have played one common opponent this year in Francis Marion. Both Big South teams came out with a win as CU won 3-2 and GWU took a 2-1 double overtime victory.
Campbell leads the 13-game all-time series 7-5-1, winning the last three contests. In 2012, took a 3-1 decision in Boiling Springs as Ashley Clark, Ashley Hartert, and Melissa Messier tabbed goals for the Camels. The last time the Bulldogs won in the Creek was in 2006 as GWU edged CU 1-0.
