Coach Horne announces 2017 women's soccer signing class

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Head coach Stuart Horne has announced the signing of four student-athletes for the class of 2017. The Fighting Camels are coming off of their third-straight Big South semifinal appearance and look to build on that success this fall.

The 2017 class consists of two defensive midfielders in Taylor Koester and Abigail Major, one forward in Siara Southerland and one center midfielder in Madison Thomsen.

Taylor Koester - M/D - Marlton, N.J.

  • Center back/center midfielder from Marlton, New Jersey… Daughter of Paul and Jennifer Koester… Attends Cherokee High School where she plays under head coach Andrew Clapperton… In three years as a center mid, tallied 16 goals and 14 assists before moving to center back her senior season… Earned second team all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior… Named first team all-conference and first team all-South Jersey following her senior season… Selected to the NJSCA South Jersey Top-20 her senior year… Played club soccer for the New Jersey Rush under head coach Martin Wood… Has served the Rush as a team captain since her eighth grade season… Led her club team to a state championship in 2014 and a semifinal appearance in 2015…

Abigail Major - M/D - Strongsville, Ohio

  • Defensive midfielder from Strongsville, Ohio… Daughter of Stephen and Bernice Major… Attends Walsh Jesuit High School and played as a four-year starter under head coach Dino McIntyre… Helped lead her high school squad to an 84-2-4 record over four seasons, good for a .956 win percentage… Selected All-District Honorable Mention as a sophomore and junior… Earned first team All-District honors her senior year and was named a Greater Akron All-Star… Played club soccer for both Cleveland FC and Ambassadors FC… Club team won Midwest Regional League Championship, State Cup Championship and Disney Showcase Championship… From the same hometown as current Camel defender Anna Brantley

Siara Southerland - F - Castle Hayne, N.C.

  • Forward from Castle Hayne, North Carolina… Daughter of Steve and Leah Southerland… Plays under head coach Justin Schatz at John T. Hoggard High School, begins her senior season this spring… Through three seasons, has scored 53 goals and recorded 20 assists… Was named First Team All-Conference, All-Area and All-Region as a sophomore and junior… Led her team to the state semifinals two years in a row, won conference championships all three years… Played club soccer for the Wilmington Hammerheads under coaches Anna Schatz and John Adams… Led the Hammerheads to NC Fall Final and Jefferson Cup championships in 2016… Aspires to become a Physician's Assistant…

Madison Thomsen - M - Las Vegas, Nev.

  • Center midfielder from Las Vegas, Nevada… Daughter of Chris and Katy Thomsen… Attends Coronado High School… Played club soccer for Heat FC ECNL under head coach Key Reid… Represented the Heat as a team captain from 2011-17… Led her club team to the 2016 Surf Cup Finals… Club team won the 2015 Surf Cup Thanksgiving Championship… Integral part of a squad that won back-to-back Vegas Cup Championships in 2013-14… Goes to the same high school as Campbell junior Tatum Printy
