Camels visit two Big South opponents this weekend

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels are on the road once again this weekend as they visit two Big South opponents. The Campbell women will head to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Following that match, CU will travel to Clinton, S.C. to face the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Sunday, March 19 at noon.

Campbell (5-7, 2-2 BSC) most recently won its second conference match of the season as the Camels defeated the Longwood Lancers, 5-2. Sophomore Alexandra Andrivot has been on a tear recently, winning her last three singles matches at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Alexandra Nicoara has won back-to-back singles contests in conference play at No. 4 singles. Since rejoining the team after battling an injury, Georgina Segarra has won her last two doubles matches with partners Andrivot and Nina Asanin.

Gardner Webb (7-4, 2-2 BSC) has won back-to-back home matches against UNC Asheville and Appalachian State, with both contests coming down to a 4-3 decision. Trailing 3-1 against UNCA, the Runnin' Bulldogs fought back to win their final three singles matches to claim the conference victory. GWU rallied once again in their match against App. State, winning their final two singles matches to earn the 4-3 victory. Daniela Naupari and Catherine White each own 8-3 records in conference play to lead Gardner-Webb.

Presbyterian (10-5, 0-1 BSC) has the second highest win total in the conference, just behind Winthrop who owns an 11-3 record this spring. The Blue Hose most recently swept the Newberry Wovles, 7-0. In singles play, PC is led by Tracy Johnson and Celine Schepers who own records of 11-2 and 7-2, respectively. Presbyterian also has two of the top doubles pairings in the conference. Mary K. Dickson and Katie Thompson are and undefeated 5-0 this season, while Schepers and Beth Taylor boast a 7-1 record.

Following the matches, the Camels return home to host the Morgan State Bears on Tuesday, March 21. That match is set for a 2 p.m. start at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell tennis, follow @GoCamelsTennis on Twitter.
