Camels narrowly fall to Runnin' Bulldogs, 4-3

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels fell in a close match on the road to the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the GWU Tennis Courts. The loss moves CU's record to 5-8 on the season with a mark of 2-3 in Big South play.

Campbell opened the match with a sweeping performance in doubles play. Campbell juniors Nina Asanin and Georgina Segarra earned their second-straight win on court three over Mixon/Ristic, 6-2. CU clinched the doubles point as Alexandra Andrivot and Isabel Boada won their team-leading fifth doubles match of the spring on court one, 6-3. Pauline Roustan and Lea Cutura also picked up their second-straight win, 7-5, to round out doubles action.

Gardner-Webb (9-4, 3-2 BSC) fought back in singles play, winning four of six singles matches to take the overall victory. Andrivot earned a win for CU without dropping a single game, taking the 6-0, 6-0 win over GWU's Sandra Bolstad. It was her fourth-straight win in singles action. Boada also won in singles play on court six with 6-0, 6-2 decision over Laine Parker. The final match of the evening came on court five as Asanin nearly forced a third set but fell, 6-3, 7-6.
