Suranofsky's Win Leads
George Mason Past Campbell 21-20
BUIES CREEK, N.C.-- Aaron Suranofsky pinned Luke Francis at
5:22 in the last match of the afternoon, giving George Mason a
21-20 victory over Campbell in wrestling action Friday.
The Camels opened up the meet with a win at 141-pounds, on
the strength of Adam Bricker's technical fall over Octavis Jones,
22-6.
The Patriots jumped on top 6-5 when Rob Becker pinned Elliot
Berger in just twenty-four seconds to win the 149-pound bout.
GMU's Richard Appau gave the Patriots a 9-5 lead after
defeating Vic Arena 8-2 to give George Mason the victory at
157-pounds.
The Fighting Camels took the next two bouts, as Adam Rees
topped J.C. Cuffee 11-5 at 165- pounds. Jon Carlisle then defeated
Sean Early, 12-5, giving CU an 11-9 lead.
George Mason jumped back on top, winning the 184 and 197
bouts. GMU's P.J. Ross downed Brian Hocum 13-9, followed by Nick
Webster's 6-1 defeat of Josh McConnell, giving the Patriots a 15-11
advantage.
CU pulled within one-point at 15-14, after Steve Cashman beat
Sandy Ailor, 8-2, in the heavyweight bout.
Campbell extended its lead to five after GMU decided to
forfeit the 125 bout. The Camels Andy Bricker was credited with the
win.
Trailing 5-2 and needing a pin to give GMU the win, Suranofsky
was able to defeat Francis twenty-two seconds into the third-period
for the victory.
George Mason's overall record now stands at 1-0 overall and
1-0 in the CAA, while the Fighting Camels fall to 1-2 and 0-1 in
the CAA.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow as take part in the
North Carolina State Duals. The matches are slated to begin at 9:00
a.m.
