NC State Wrestling Downs Campbell 36-6
RALEIGH, N.C.--Jake Giamoni got a technical fall and
a pin at 149 pounds, and NC State used four
pins, two technical falls and a major decision to sweep a college
wrestling doubleheader over Campbell and UNC Greensboro on Thursday night
at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack, which improved to 4-5 in dual
matches on the season, downed the Camels 36-6 and beat the Spartans 34-9.
Campbell dropped to 4-9 on the season, while UNCG fell to 1-7.
Only two Campbell grapplers scored wins over Wolfpack
wrestlers. Luke Francis defeated Daniel Pacitti, 11-4, at
133-pounds and
Adam Bricker topped Ryan McCallum, 3-1, overtime at 141-pounds.
Giamoni scored the biggest points for the Wolfpack. He took a
technical fall over Campbell's Elliot
Berger, 22-5 at the 5:00 mark, and then pinned UNCG's Tony Stewart at
1:58. Other double winners for NC State included 157-pounder Scott
Garren, who won a 12-2 major decision over Campbell's Vic Arena and a 6-3
decision over UNCG's Ryan Tripp; 165-pounder Kevin Gabrielson,
who decisioned Jon Carlisle of Campbell, 4-2, and pinned Alex Pierce of
UNCG at 0:59; and 184-pounder Jon Godwin, who pinned Campbell's Brian
Hocum at 6:52 and decisioned UNCG's Steve McClamrock, 8-2. Garren,
ranked 15th nationally, improved to 10-0 with the two victories, and has won
his last 15 bouts, dating back to the 2000-01 season.
NC State's George Cintron and Dustin Kawa each won single
bouts and also picked up a win by
forfeit. Cintron decisioned Campbell's Andy Bricker 7-2 at 125 pounds, and
Kawa got a tech fall over UNCG's Keith Ritter. Cintron (11-4 on the
season) and Kawa (12-3) both ran their personal winning streaks to
eight matches apiece. For UNCG, David Johnson picked
up a 5-2 decision over Pacitti at 133, Wes Gibson defeated Ryan
McCallum 6-5 at 141, and heavyweight John Kimble held off a late surge
by Leroy Harris to defeat Harris 9-6. Campbell won two bouts. Luke
Francis downed Pacitti 11-4 at 133, and Adam Bricker beat McCallum 3-1
in overtime.
The Fighting Camels will travel to take part in the James
Madison Duals on Saturday. The first match is slated to begin at
noon. NC State returns to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at
Old Dominion.
