Fighting Camels Drop Three at
JMU Duals

HARRISONBURG, Va.--The Campbell University wrestling team
dropped all three of its matches on Saturday at the James Madison
Duals including a defeat to the host. The Dukes' 28-11 triumph of
Campbell was a Colonial Athletic Association match. The Dukes
squared their league record to 3-3. Campbell slipped to 1-7 in the
league.
The Golden Flashes of Kent State (14-3) swep tall three of
their outings, including a 37-9 decision against host James Madison
(4-8), in an afternoon of six dual matches at JMU's Godwin Hall
Saturday afternoon. Appalachian State (8-1) suffered its first loss
of the season and went 2-1 in the competition. JMU went 1-2 and
Campbell University (4-11) 0-3.
Kent State opened with a 39-0 shutout of the Campbell Camels
before toppling the Mountaineers of Appalachian State 24-12. The
Golden Flashes finished the afternoon with a 37-9 verdict against
the JMU Dukes.
Redshirt freshman Heavyweight Tomas Rodriguez was one of
three Golden Flashes to go 3-0 on the day, but was the only one to
register a fall in each of his triumphs. None of his opponent's
lasted beyond the first round and his quickest stick came against
JMU freshman Matt Coffey in 32 seconds.Rodriquez upped his record
to 15-3.
KSU's other triple winners were 165-pound redshirt senior Nick
Nemeth (26-3) , who picked up a forfeit, fall and a major decision,
and 184-pound redshirt freshman Alex Camargo (25-9) , who had a
major to go along with a pair of decisions. The Mountaineers, who
beat JMU 27-13 and Campbell 34-9, also had a trio of triple
victors. Seniors Rich Caisse at 125 pounds and Travis Drake at 133
each added three wins to their totals. Caisse had a tech fall among
wins and improved his record to 25-7. Drake registered a fall and a
major en route to improving to 22-7. Jason Jones, a 141-pound
sophomore, tallied a tech fall and a pair of decisions to move to
27-11.
JMU's top performers were senior Josh Fultz and redshirt
junior Steve Kodish as both went 2-1. Fultz majored in both of his
wins at 165 and improved to 9-7 overall. Kodish, at 197, raised his
record to 18-9 and notched his second fall of the
season.
