Old Dominion Rallies Back to Defeat Campbell Wrestling

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University wrestling squad dropped a 21-16 to Old Dominion Thursday night in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up.

The Fighting Camels (4-13, 1-8 CAA) held a 13-5 advantage over the Monarchs after the first four bouts, but were unable to hold the momentum in the final rounds of the match.

ODU (5-6, 2-3 CAA) took the 133-pound weight class as Chris Bucker defeated CU's Jordan Henning by technical fall, 21-4.

The Camels would win three consecutive weight classes to take the 13-5 lead.

Adam Bricker defeated Charlie Busch, 15-6, at 141-pounds. Elliot Berger recorded the sole pin for the Camels on the night as he took the 149-pound class against Jon Stovich. Vic Arena would win the 157-pound class in overtime, 4-2, against Robby Gosnell to give the Camels the eight point lead.

Old Dominion would rally back, however, as Dave Kaplan would defeat Adam Rees at 165-pounds. ODU would go on to win the next five weight classes en route to the victory.

Ben Summerlin took the 174-pound class over John Carlisle, 13-6. Adam Wright defeated Brian Hocum, 14-6, at the 184-pound class. In the 197-pound class, Josh McConnell earned three back points in the wanning seconds of the bout to cut Greg Gill's advantage to 11-10, but Gill's advantage time earned him a 12-10 victory as time expired, giving the Monarch's a 18-13 lead.

In the heavy weight division, Derrell Lorthridge won 3-1 over Dennis Campbell to make the team score 21-13.

Andy Bricker won the 125-pound class against ODU's John Starkes, 3-2, in the final bout of the night to give the final score of 21-16.
