Hocum Wins 174-Pound
Weight Class for Campbell in UNC Pembroke
Open
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
Brian Hocum won the 174-pound weight class and Lantz Nixon
reached the final of the 184-pound class in collegiate wrestling
Friday and Saturday in the UNC Pembroke Open.
Hocum won all five of
his matches to claim the 174 pound weight class bracket. Hocum, a
senior from Clakston, Wash., won his first match by pin in 3:43. He
won his next four matches by a combined score of 44-22.
Nixon advanced all the
way to the finals of the 184 pound class before losing 4-2 to Tony
Morgan of Carson-Newman. The Red-Shirt senior won his first four
matches 51-17 combined, highlighted by a 17-1 victory over Josh
Chambers of Pensacola Christian College.
Five Camels
Lorey Campese (133), Eliot Berger (141), Billy Sheridan (149),
Hocum (174) and Nixon 184) posted two or more victories in
the event.
The Camels return to
action Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they travel to UNC Greensboro.
CU then heads to Annapolis, Md., on Saturday to take part in the
