MACON,
GA.-Piling on five RBI in two games last week, Campbell sophomore
catcher Amanda Littlejohn registered her first career Atlantic Sun
softball Player of the Week award the league office announced
Monday.
"I
am proud of the work she has put in and the determination she has
displayed in spite of the distractions she is facing," said CU head
coach Drew Peterson. "Amanda is a great example of how perseverance
and extra work results in success."
Knocking in those five
runs, the Lake Elsinore, Calif. native surpassed the CU single
season RBI record, previously held by Shannon O'Bryan and set in
2001. Littlejohn came into Saturday's contests with 59 RBI, just
two shy of the historic mark of 61.
After posting one RBI in a
4-1 loss, the sophomore belted a pair of two-run homers in game
two, pushing her season total to 64 and establishing a new record
as the Camels took a 6-5 victory.
The catcher also raised
her average at the plate by nine points to a .369 with a 4-for-6
day, good for seventh in the conference, while her RBI totals stand
fourth and her 75 hits fall just one short of the lead. With 18
doubles, Littlejohn is tops among A-Sun competitors as well.
With four RBI in game two,
the sophomore owns a team-high 15 multi-RBI games, including five
contests where Littlejohn has pushed four or more runs across.
The honor is the third
bestowed upon a member of the CU Softball squad by the league
office this season, after senior outfielder Courtney Quinn and
sophomore pitcher Brittany Stanley received Player and Pitcher of
the Week awards earlier this season.
Next up for the Camels is
the A-Sun Tournament in DeLand, Fla., opening play with Stetson in
a 1 p.m. contest on Thursday.
