BOONE, N.C. – Campbell dropped its first Southern Conference match of the season Wednesday to Appalachian State by one point, 16-15 in Varsity Gymnasium. The Camels move to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in SoCon action.
The Camels started the match strong, as redshirt juniors Brent Jorge (149 pounds) and Nick Rex (157 pounds) posted decisions over Mountaineer grapplers , bringing the score to 6-0. Jorge handled Zach Kechter with an 11-5 score, improving to 7-5 this year. Rex earned a 3-2 win over Aaron Scott, moving to 7-3.
Appalachian fired back, winning four-straight matches to take a 13-6 lead, which they didn't give up the rest of the night.
At 285 pounds, Joe Nolan eased past Nick Vetell 10-3, as he moved to 3-2 on the year, earning the fourth Campbell decision of the match.
Freshman Eric Montoya, who moved to No. 28 at 125 in this week's WrestlingReport.com poll, posted his second win of the year over Dominic Parisi. Montoya has given Parisi his most recent two losses, the previous at the Southern Scuffle. Montoya moves to 25-10, the most wins of any Camel.
Freshman Michael Dahlstrom earned the Camels' final win of the day at 141, edging Chris Johnson 5-4. The win was Dahlstrom's first as an attached wrestler for Campbell, and he moved to 1-2 on the year.

The Camels will stay on the road for their next match on Wed., Jan. 23, traveling to The Citadel for a 7:00 p.m. match. Campbell returns to Buies Creek Mon., Jan. 28 to host Gardner-Webb at 7:00 p.m. in Gore Arena.
