BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a week-long break, Campbell is back in action as it takes on Chattanooga Monday night at 6 p.m. in Maclellan Gym. The Fighting Camels (7-9, 5-1 SoCon) are second in the Southern Conference while the Mocs (10-6, 6-0 SoCon) hold first place. A CU win would give the Camels a share of the SoCon regular season title with the Mocs.
The Fighting Camels: Campbell has won its last four Southern Conference matches in a row, most recently a 40-12 victory over Davidson on Feb. 14.
CU's last action came at the Carolina Duals and a match with Ohio on Feb. 17, going 1-2 on the day. The Fighting Camels took down Duke 20-19 and fell to North Carolina 26-19 in Chapel Hill, N.C. before falling to Ohio 36-6 in Durham, N.C.
Freshman No. 27 Eric Montoya continues to lead the Camels with 31 season victories and is a perfect 6-0 in league action at 125 pounds.
In the Feb. 14 and 17 matches, redshirt junior Nick Rex went 3-1. He had a 16-1 tech fall against Davidson's Patrick Devlin in 5:13 Thursday. He then won two overtime matches on Saturday against UNC and Duke to spur the team on. He posted a 6-4 overtime decision over No. 24 UNC's Chris Mears and another 6-4 overtime decision over Duke's Immanuel Kerr-Brown.
The Mocs: Chattanooga won two duals Saturday to stay perfect in conference action. The Mocs defeated SIUE 40-3 and VMI 36-3 at home.
Chattanooga has four wrestlers ranked in the NCAA coaches' poll. Nick Soto is No. 19 at 125, Dean Pavlou is No. 26 at 141, Josh Condon is No. 26 at 165, and Niko Brown is No. 20 at 197.
