CHARLESTON, S.C. – Campbell dropped its first Southern Conference dual of the 2014-15 season, falling to The Citadel, 45-3, Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Ville Heino picked up the team's only win of the dual, defeating redshirt senior John Duane, earning three points for the Camels. Heino extended his unbeaten streak in duals to three with the decision.
"Ville has been the most consistent and looked good for us today," head coach Cary Kolat said. "We have been adjusting his style and he is making the effort to change and it is showing"
Freshmen Ryan Hall and Monte Britton, redshirt sophomore Cody Ryba and senior Garrison Matthews also took the mat against the Bulldogs; Hall, Britton and Ryba made their season dual debuts.
"Ryan [Hall] stepped in for Daniel Luty representing us at 157," Kolat said. "Ryan is green and has a lot of wrestling to learn at this point, but I have no faults with his performance based on his skill.
"Cody [Ryba] had little time to train but filled the void at heavy weight for us. Once he has a couple matches under his belt he will perform at a higher level for us."
The Camels will return to action Jan. 1 as they compete in the Southern Scuffle, hosted by Chattanooga.
