CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Campbell and The Citadel each won five individual matches, but the Bulldogs come away with the 21-16 win to end the Fighting Camels' regular season Saturday at Carmichael Arena. Campbell (5-3, 5-2) claim third place in the Southern Conference, while The Citadel takes second behind Chattanooga.
Tyler Walker finished the regular season 6-0 in SoCon action, earning a 13-3 major decision over Joaqin Marquez at 125 to give Campbell the 4-0 lead.
Drew Walker widened the Campbell lead to seven, grabbing the 7-6 decision over Aaron Hansen at 133.
The Citadel stormed back to win four straight bouts, taking the 18-7 lead.
Paul Duggan and Ville Heino moved up weight classes, and each earned their first conference win at 174 and 197, respectively. Duggan won the 8-2 decision over Kenneth Radford and Heino edged Marshall Haas 3-2, to close the Bulldog lead at 21-13.
Eloheim Palma took the final win of the match at the heavyweight spot, taking the 6-1 decision over Joe Bexley.
Campbell will have two weeks to prepare for the Southern Conference Championships held in Gore Arena on March 8.
