Women's soccer host Western Carolina Saturday night

Box Score

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Women's soccer will host Western Carolina at Eakes Athletics Complex Saturday night at 7 p.m. Campbell holds an 0-2 all-time record versus the Catamounts.

The Camels (1-2-1) will look to snap a four game winless streak. The Catamounts (1-3-3) clinched their first win Sept. 7 against Tennessee Tech, 3-0, and drew with NC State Thursday night in Raleigh, 1-1.

"We're still trying to tinker with ideas and fine tune," head coach Stuart Horne said. "We still have one week left to really experiment with some things and get ideas with some kids.

"We've been in a lot of close ones, all our losses have been by one goal. It would be nice to come in and get one, and reward the kids for their hard work."

Sophomore forward Payton Ormsby clinched her first goal of the season in the team's previous match at Old Dominion, tying her for the team lead in points (3) with sophomore forward Nicole Connolly.

Connolly, a natural defender, has played at forward for the Camels in the last three matches. She made her first start at forward against East Tennessee State and tallied her first collegiate goal.

According Horne the Northern Ireland native may have found a permanent home at forward.

"It kind of came out of necessity because of injury," he said. "Nicole is one of our more technical kids; she has a good soccer brain on her head. She's feisty and aggressive. The game kind of brought her into that position and she's done well with it."

Senior forward Caitlyn Bradham leads the Catamounts with four points (2g) and is tied with junior forward Markie-Lynn Studnicky with 14 shots.

Western Carolina has outscored the Camels 5-1 in two matches. Campbell fell to the Catamounts the last time the two teams met, during the 2010 season, 2-1.

The Camels will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. Wednesday to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs; kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
