Three Camels to be honored Thursday on senior night

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell wrestling will close out its 2014-15 home schedule Thursday night at Carter Gym as it hosts Gardner-Webb on senior night at 6 p.m.

Seniors Daniel LutyGarrison Matthews and Cody Ryba will all hit the mat one last time for the Camels and will be honored ten minutes prior to the start of the match.

"I hope each guy pulls out a win, every guy wants to go out on a high note," head coach Cary Kolat said. "I hope that they go out smiling and enjoy themselves.

"There are a lot of memories; We've had multiple van rides, and there's so many stories that come out of it. I've had a good time with all of them, and I think they've had a good time with me. We've had great conversations and they definitely seem happy. You want them to leave here having positive memories of the program and I think those three will leave here with those kinds of memories."

Luty, a Freemont, Calif., native amassed 17 wins in the 157 pound weight class for the Camels during his four years with the program. He posted a career-high seven wins last year as a junior.

The only North Carolina native in the senior class, Matthews, from Fayetteville, has posted seven career wins for Campbell; he has earned a career-best four victories this season. Matthews competed in the 165, 174 and 197 pound weight classes during his four seasons with the Camels.

Ryba, a native of Hiram, Ohio, has posted 15 victories for the Camels. He posted a career-best nine wins during his sophomore campaign for the 2012-13 season; Ryba also took first place in the 174 pound bracket at the Citadel Open as a sophomore. He has competed in the heavyweight class this season but also took the mat in 165, 174 and 184 pound matches as a Campbell wrestler.

"We talked on the ride down from Chattanooga that it was their last home event and that I expect them to all be in the stands next year to see the changes here at Campbell," Kolat said. "They all said they would, so hopefully we'll see some follow through."

The Camels will return to action Sunday as they travel to SIU-Edwardsville for a matinee match at 1 p.m. Campbell will close its regular season Feb. 15 as it takes on Davidson at 1 p.m. and Coker at 2:30 p.m.; both matches will be held at Belk Arena on the campus of Davidson College.
