Camels to host Western Carolina on Friday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell University (4-2-0) women's soccer team returns home to the Eakes Athletics Complex on Friday for a match versus Western Carolina (2-4-1). The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.

CU will be Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer in support of the Go4theGoal Foundation and to raise awareness for kids battling cancer. Go4theGoal strives to improve the lives of pediatric cancer patients by proving financial support, developing hospital programs, funding research and granting wishes.

The Fighting Camels are coming off of a 1-0 victory over American last Friday in Washington, D.C. Shannon Wratchford netted the game-winner for CU in the 17th minute of play off of a stellar through pass by Hanna Maansson.

Erin Scott earned her fourth career victory and second solo shutout as a member of the Campbell women's soccer program. The Sachse, Texas, native corralled five shots over the course of the match to secure the clean sheet for CU.

Scott has been formidable between the posts for Campbell during the early portion of the season. She has only allowed two goals for a goals-against-average of 0.44 and a save percentage of .889. Scott has a total of 16 saves on the season, which ranks 11th in the Big South.

The Orange and Black have faced off against Western Carolina on five occasions, with an all-time record of 2-3-0. Headed into Friday's match, WCU holds a 9-5 advantage in the goal differential against CU. The two teams last played in 2015, a 2-0 victory for the Fighting Camels in Cullowhee, N.C.

Western Carolina holds a 2-4-1 record through seven games, including victories over Morehead State and Tennessee-Martin, a draw against Elon, and losses to Belmont, Tennessee Tech, UNC Charlotte and Lipscomb.

Most recently, WCU played Tennessee-Martin, a 3-2 victory in overtime at the Catamounts Athletics Complex in Cullowhee. Sayres McKenna notched the game-winner for Western Carolina in the 92nd minute to snap the tie.

The Catamounts have an explosive offense with 12 goals on the season against a tough slate of non-conference opponents. McCallister, McKenna and Threatt have combined for eight goals on the season. McCallister leads the team in assists (3), points (9), shots (19) and shots on goal (12) and is tied for first in goals with three on the season.
