Camels back in action Thursday vs. Central Penn

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After an eight-day break for final exams, Campbell returns to action Thursday in a 7 pm tip-off vs. Central Penn.

The Camels (4-4) are coming off an 83-68 loss Dec. 4 at Abilene Christian, while Central Penn (3-5) defeated Berkeley-NYC 70-68 on Sunday.

Chris Clemons led Campbell with 26 points on 7-12 from the floor and 10-11 from the line at Abilene.  Andrew Eudy and Ja'Cor Nelson added 12 apiece for the Camels, who shot 49 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the taller Wildcats 30-21, but committed a season-high 22 turnovers.

Central Penn ended a 4-game losing streak Sunday against Berkeley-NYC.  The Knights stand 0-5 in true road games this year.  Junior guard Ryan Lawrence leads the Knights in scoring (12.3), while junior forward Noah Baylor adds 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Chris Clemons leads the nation in scoring (31.4 ppg) and has extended his double-figure scoring streak to 90 games, the longest among all active players and fifth-best in NCAA Division I history.  He is only 17 points shy of becoming the 68th player in D1 history to reach 2,500 career points.  Clemons enters Thursday's game 74 points shy of breaking the Big South Conference career scoring record set by Reggie Williams of VMI (2,556 from 2004-08).

Campbell ranks 2nd in the Big South Conference in steals (8.5), paced by Trey Spencer (1.9, T6th BSC), Ja'Cor Nelson (1.9, T6th) and Chris Clemons (1.8, 8th).

The Camels stand 3rd among Big South teams in 3-point field goals made per game (9.5), paced by Clemons, who tops the league and 3.6 treys per outing.

Freshman forward Isaac Chatman chips in 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Camels, while senior center Andrew Eudy adds 9.0 points, while ranking 3rd among league leaders in blocks (1.1), 11th in assists (3.1) and 15th in rebounds (5.1).

The Camels have won their last 14 games against non-Division I opponents.  CU has topped the 100-point barrier three times in those contests and scored 90-plus points on seven other occasions.

Located in Summerdale, Pa., Central Penn is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) at the Division II level.

The Knights stand 0-3 vs. D1 foes this year, with a Dec. 22 trip to Davidson also on the books.  Central Penn dropped a 99-71 decision at Howard on Nov. 11 and also lost 77-52 at Maryland-Eastern Shore (Nov. 24) and 92-59 at Elon (Nov. 27).

Following Thursday's game, the Camels host The Citadel, the nation's top-scoring team, Tuesday (Dec. 18) at 7 p.m.
