BUIES CREEK – A balanced attacked led Campbell to a straight-set win over Winthrop Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena. Five Camels finished between six and 10 kills on a collective .301 hitting for the match.
The win takes Campbell to .500 at 8-8, 4-0 in Big South play. Winthrop falls to 6-9, 2-2 in the league.
Campbell battled to win the first set 27-25. The Camels led by as many as seven before allowing the Eagles to climb back into the set. Winthrop took its first lead with a match point opportunity, but Campbell was able to hold them off and hang for the win.
The first set win helped Campbell settle into the match and roll to a 25-14 second set. Campbell hit .382 in the second frame led by five kills from
Lailah Green, part of her team-high 10 on the day.
Campbell closed out the match with a 25-17 third set. A nice 7-1 run in the middle of the set helped Campbell to a comfortable lead to bring it home.
Ananda Patterson played her best down the stretch, notching kills in three of the final four points before Green punctuated the match with a solo block.
Green's 10 kills were followed by nine from
Melody Paige and eight from
Chloe Cook. Both Mitter and Sciacca dished out 20 assists and Fechter collected 21 digs. Campbell collected 10 blocks as a team led by four from Paige.
Campbell returns to action next Thursday, Oct. 6 at Radford before hosting High Point next Saturday, Oct. 8.
