BUIES CREEK – Campbell moved one step closer to the regular season title with a straight-sets win at home against UNC Asheville Friday night. The Camels magic number drops to one with USC Upstate coming to Gore Arena Saturday.
Campbell is now 17-10, 13-2 in league play, while UNC Asheville falls to 4-21, 1-14 in the Big South.
Campbell had to overcome a handful of errors to take the first set 25-22. The Camels committed ten total errors, eight attacking and two serving, in the opening frame. Despite the errors, the attack was potent still finding 19 kills in the first set to help go up 1-0.
The Camels had to battle in an even closer second set that they eventually won 27-25. Campbell found itself having to hold off a set point at 24-23, but a pair of kills from
Lailah Green an another from Aley Clent helped flip the score late. Campbell did hit .320 in the frame, but allowed the Bulldogs to hit .326 themselves.
Campbell wrapped up the straight-set win with a more comfortable 25-15 final set. Seven different Camels contributed a kill in the final set, with seven total collecting a dig as well.
Lailah Green led the offense with 10 kills on the night, while Aley Clent and
