Campbell welcomes USC Upstate Sunday

Last time out
Campbell bounced back from a season-opening loss at Kansas with a 94-42 victory at home against William Peace on Friday.
 
The Camels had five scorers reach double figures for the first time since Feb. 13, 2014. Tatyana Carver led the way with 15 points, while Lauren McNamara-Clement tallied 14, Caroline Bowns scored 12 and Summer Price added 11. Taya Bolden notched a double-double in the win with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
 
The 52-point margin of victory was the third largest inside Gore Arena in program history and seventh largest all-time at home. CU buried 15 three-pointers, also a new program record.
 
Campbell racked up 54 points off the bench and limited William Peace to just two. CU also grabbed 58 rebounds and scored 44 points in the paint in the win.
 
USC Upstate notes
Upstate is looking for its first win of the 2017-18 season, having dropped contests at ECU (66-53) and Virginia Tech (87-56) and at home against Presbyterian (83-69).
 
Against Virginia Tech, Tamera Thorpe led the Spartans with 22 points, along with Anda Kuzmina (14 points) and Morgan Williams (11 points) posting a career-high in points.
 
Despite being winless on the season, Upstate has led at halftime in two of its three games, but have been outscored 93-34 in the second half of those two games.
 
The Spartans are second in the ASUN with 73 total turnovers, giving the ball away 24.3 times per game.

Sunday's contest is the final non-conference meeting between the two schools, as USC Upstate is set to join the Big South next year.
 
Home Openers
Campbell is 5-1 in home openers in the last six seasons with its defeat of William Peace, 94-42, on Friday night. 
 
Strong Offensive Starts At Home
The Camels have outscored opponents by an average of 45 points in the last six home openers (5-1). The largest margin of victory in the last five home-openers was 69 points (102-33) against Barber-Scotia (11/10/12). Most recently, Campbell won by 52 over William Peace on Friday night.
 
Loss In Season-Opener
In 2015-16, Campbell's last season-opening loss, CU bounced back by winning five of its next six contests.
 
Freshmen Impact
Through the first two games, all six freshmen have appeared for the Camels. Five recorded at least 10 minutes of game time at Kansas, led by Tatyana Carver's 22 minutes.
 
Against William Peace, Julia Crocker made her collegiate debut, knocking down a 3-pointer on her first shot of the game.
 
Let Me Help
Campbell tallied 31 assists on Friday night on 37 baskets, with MaKala Rouse and Carver combining for 13 to lead the way.
 
Big South Preseason
The Camels were tabbed third in the Big South preseason poll, earning 77 points in the voting. Campbell finished four points ahead of fourth place High Point and four points behind second place Liberty. Summer Price and MaKala Rouse were named to the preseason second team all-conference.
 
2017-18 Camels
CU returns nine from last season, including its top four scorers, while adding six new faces to the squad. Price, Rouse, Caroline Bowns and Hannah Long pace the top four returning scorers for the Camels.
 
Hayley Barber, Breanna Foster, Taya Bolden, Sarah Smith and Alyshia Allison also return for the Orange and Black. Joining the squad is Micaila Coleman, Ashlyn Hampton, Tatyana Carver, Kyra Davis and Julia Crocker.
 
Campbell signs two for 2018
Head coach Ronny Fisher announced the signing of Shyanne "Shy" Tuelle and Lauren Carter to the 2018 incoming class.
 
Tuelle, a 5-10 guard, comes to Campbell from Hampton, Tenn., and Hampton High School. Carter, a 6-0 forward, joins the Camels from High Point, N.C., and Southwest Guilford High School.
 
Postseason Play
Campbell made its first postseason appearance in 17 years in 2017, as it earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitational. CU fell to St. Francis (Pa.), 79-68, on March 16 in tournament play.
 
Top Scoring Defense
Campbell finished the 2016-17 season with the top scoring defense in NCAA Division I, allowing just 49.6 points per game. The Camels held teams to just 47.8 points per game inside Gore Arena. CU tallied nine double-digit victories, holding opponents to under 40 points in five of those contests.
 
Big South 2016-17 Honors
MaKala Rouse was named the 2016-17 Big South Defensive Player of the Year. Rouse also earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Summer Price earned second team honors and former Camel, Brianna Cribb, picked up All-Academic honors.
 
1,000-Point Watch
Senior guard Summer Price is nearing the 1,000-point plateau, only needing 54 points to reach that mark. Price tallied 416 points last season, 45 percent of her three-year career total.
