Winston Salem, N.C. - Louis Monterosso and
Lorenz Schwab both claimed runner up spots at the Wake Forest Invite as Campbell closed out its fall season November 3-5.
The Camels combined for a 8-7 singles, 3-3 doubles and 11-10 overall record on the weekend.
Schwab posted a 3-1 record on the weekend. The senior advanced through the opening rounds with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mercer's Ruben Van Oppen and Wofford's Edu Villar, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, to advance to the semifinals.
Schwab knocked off Charlotte's Ben Wayand, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, to advance to the finals of the B1 singles bracket where he fell to Charlotte's Oriol Puig, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Monterosso also won his way to the finals of the C1 singles bracket after an opening round bye and a win over Gardner-Webb's Michael Perry, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to the semifinals. Monterosso defeated Wake Forest's Pat Hannity, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch a spot in the finals where he lost to Wofford's Omar Williams, 6-1, 6-4.
Schwab paired with teammate,
Gerard Sola, to post a 2-1 doubles record and claim third place in the A2 doubles bracket.
The duo claimed an opening round win over Tennesee Tech duo, Alfonzo/Garcia before falling to James Madison pair Lanthiez/Mendoza, 6-2. Sola and Schwab went on to defeat Mercer pairing Philip/Stuart, 7-6 (5), to claim third place of the A2 doubles bracket.
Monterosso and
Ondrej Labik paired up to post a 1-2 record in doubles action. The duo won their opening round draw against Davidson pair Macintosh/Fries, 6-2, before falling in the semifinals to UNCG duo Palmer/Thompson, 7-5. Labik and Monterosso then fell to Garder-Webb's Schmidt/Gilbert, 6-4, in the third-place draw.
Campbell closed out its fall season over the weekend but return to action during the spring season after the new year.
