BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After setting a Campbell single game record with 4.5 sacks,
Emmanuel Olenga has been named honorable mention STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
The redshirt sophomore defensive end was also named the
Pioneer Football League's Defensive Player of the Week, adding 10 tackles total in the Camels' 2017 opener, a 70-0 win over Methodist.
Olenga, a Charlotte, N.C. native, in his first game as a Camel, also forced and recovered a fumble, sacking MU's Steve Keoni early in the third quarter, giving Campbell the ball back on the Methodist five yard line.
The CU defense limited Methodist to just 62 total yards in the win, tallying the second-largest scoring total and margin of victory in the program's Division I era (since 2008) behind a 76-0 win vs. Apprentice on Sept. 10, 2011. The shutout marked CU's fourth all-time (since 2008).
Campbell returns to action at Barker-Lane Stadium next Saturday (Sept. 9) in a 6:00 p.m. kick-off against Georgetown.
