Sundberg Second, Campbell 11 Strokes Off Team Lead After First Day at Sam Houston State

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS – Sophomore Fredric Sundberg is second individually and Campbell stands sixth in the team race following 36 holes Friday at the Sam Houston State Invitational at Raven's Nest Golf Club.

A sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden, Sundberg followed an even-par 72 with a four-under 68 on Monday to sit two strokes off the pace of Texas-Pan American's Craig Berger (70-68). Brandon Melville of Oklahoma Christian matched Sundberg's 140 (73-67) as 11 golfers shot in the 60s during the second round.

Baylor (295-282—577) leads the 12-school field with a one-over-par team score on the par-72, 6943-yard Raven's Nest layout. Oklahoma Christian is second at plus-four (580), followed by Texas Pan-Am (581), Saint Edwards (581), Missouri State (583) and Campbell (588).

Sundberg will be seeking his third-straight top-five finish when Saturday's final round starts at 8:00 a.m. He opened the spring season with a runner-up showing last month at the Charleston Southern Spring Kick-Off. Sundberg then placed fourth last week at Campbell's Hargrove B. Davis Spring Classic.
