John Izzo Named A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University midfielder John Izzo has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week ending Oct. 27.
Izzo, a junior from Spring, Texas, scored twice – including the game-winner -- in Campbell's 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday. He leads the team in scoring with 16 points on five goals and six assists – all career highs – through 14 games this season.
He ranks among the league leaders in goals, assists and points this year. Izzo's seventh-minute volley proved to be the game-winner on Saturday. He added a header early in the second half for CU's final strike of the day.
On Oct. 19, Izzo scored once and assisted on two other goals in a 5-1 victory at Gardner-Webb. He has tallied at least one goal or assist in six of Campbell's last nine matches.
During his sophomore year, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound tallied 11 points on three goals and five assists. He had three goals and four assists in 2000 when he was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.
A former Houston-area standout, Izzo spent the summer of 2002 playing with the Houston Toros of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League. He led the Houston Texans club team to State Cup championships in '94, '95, '97, '98 and '00. Izzo was invited to try out for the United States U-16 National Team in 1998 and was a member of the national player pool.
The Fighting Camels (4-10, 2-4 A-Sun) return to Atlantic Sun action on Saturday when they host the University of Central Florida at 1:00 p.m.
