Coastal Carolina Surges By Campbell
67-56
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Derrick Robinson scored 20 points
and Coastal Carolina used a second-half rally to defeat Campbell
67-56 in men's basketball action on Friday night at the Myrtle
Beach Convention Center.
The Chanticleers (2-7) ended a five-game losing streak by
outscoring the Camels 23-9 over the game's final 6:30.
Campbell (2-7) used a 9-1 spurt to take its largest lead of
the game at 45-41 with 8:23 to play, but Coastal went on a 15-2
run, that included 12 unanswered points, and never trailed
again.
Antonio Darden added 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Chants,
while Alvin Green scored 15 points and Kelvin Coggins 11. Robinson
grabbed 11 boards, dealt six assists and had four steals.
Coastal held Campbell to season lows for three-point field
goals made (1) and attempted (10). Green held Camel leading
scorer Adam Fellers to nine points, 10 below his season
average.
Freshman Dominique Klein scored a season-high 15 points, 12 in
the second half, to lead Campbell, which dropped its sixth-straight
game. Jonte' Edwards had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Emory
Walton scored a season-high 10.
Campbell led 32-30 at half-time on the strength of 52 percent
shooting in the opening stanza. However, the Camels went cold
after the break, hitting only 29 percent of their attempts from the
field and 0-of-7 from 3-point range.
The Fighting Camels return to action on Sat., Dec. 29 in a
5:00 p.m. tip-off at Florida State. The game will be televised
live by Sunshine Network.
