Jacksonville Downs Campbell 67-53
BUIES CREEK, N.C. Antwan Robertson keyed a 34-8 run
early in the second half and Jacksonville went on to a 67-53
victory over Campbell University in Atlantic Sun men's basketball
action on Thursday night at Carter Gym.
Robertson had eight of his 10 points in a 2:20 stretch during
the decisive spurt for the Dolphins (11-5, 5-2 A-Sun), who won
their fourth-straight road game, the first time the program has
accomplished that string since the 1993-94 season.
Travis Robinson came off the bench to score a game-high 17
points for Jacksonville. Kevin Sheppard added 16, while Calvin
Warner also hit double figures with 10 points, plus nine rebounds.
Ali Kaba pulled down a game-high 10 boards for JU, which held a
35-32 edge on the glass.
Jonte' Edwards and Adam Fellers led Campbell (3-11, 1-6) with
11 points each. Fellers made his first five shots of the game, but
did not score in the final 27 minutes while being limited to just
two attempts by the JU defense.
Campbell made just 2-of-14 attempts from 3-point range (14.3
percent) and shot 41.2 percent overall from the floor (21-51).
Jacksonville hit 58.6 percent (17-29) of its shots in the second
half to finish at 49.2 percent (29-59) from the field on the
night.
Jacksonville led 27-24 at the break, but Bobby Jones hit a
pair of jumpers in the first minute to give Campbell what proved to
be its only lead (28-27) of the second half. Sheppard's triple put
JU in front for good 30-28 with 18:23 to play and ignited a 12-2
run which turned into the 34-8 rally.
James Daniels' lay-in gave JU its largest lead of the game (27
points) at 63-36 with 6:20 remaining before the Camels outscored
the Dolphins 17-4 down the stretch.
Campbell returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Stetson
at 2:15 p.m. in a game that will be televised live by WKFT-TV 40
regionally and by the Sunshine Network in Florida.
