Three Local Players Commit to Lady Camel Basketball During Early Signing Period
BUIES
CREEK, N.C. - Kristin Fowler, Jennifer Martin, and Adrienne Rieley
have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball at
Campbell University, head coach Wanda Watkins announced on
Thursday. The trio announced their decisions during the first day
of the NCAA early signing period.
Fowler
is currently a senior at Raleigh (N.C.) Broughton High School where
the 6-foot-1 guard has averaged 14 points, six rebounds, and five
assists per game during her prep career. The daughter of Carol and
N.C. State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler, she is a three time
All-Cap 6 selection for basketball and four time honoree in
volleyball.
"Kristin's
height, scoring ability on the perimeter, and unselfish play in
making others around her better players are all assets we liked. A
versatile player, Kristin played all five positions for head coach
Dayna Jordan's squad, which will likely make her not only a scoring
threat, but give us a strong rebounder at the guard position," said
Watkins. "She has a good mentality for the game as well as a high
level of maturity that is not always present in younger players.
She is an excellent student-athlete who will represent us well in
all facets of our University and we anxiously await her arrival to
our campus next fall."
Martin
is a 6-foot-2 center out of Millbrook High School, also in Raleigh.
The two-time All-Cap 6 selection averaged 10.2 points and eight
rebounds during her career for head coach Chris East. The daughter
of Lois and Richard Martin, she was also named the team's MVP last
season.
"Jennifer
will be a post player for us and we look for her to be a rebounder
and scorer as well as a strong defender for us next year," said
Watkins. "She is always looking to improve her game and we believe
this is a valuable asset in a player. We are looking forward to
watching her progress this year and at Campbell for four
seasons."
Rieley
will join the Lady Camels from Fayetteville, N.C., where she played
for head coach Brent Barker at South View High School. The 6-foot-1
center is a two-time All-Two Rivers selection who was awarded the
team's Best Offensive Player award after last season. Rieley has
averaged 12.1 points per game and grabbed 7.8 rebounds while at
South View. The daughter of Pamela and Thomas Rieley, she was also
named to the Fayetteville Holiday Classic All-Tournament team in
her sophomore and junior campaigns.
"Adrienne
will also be a post player for us. She has a very strong presence
inside and has the capability to get out of the blocks and run the
floor well," said Watkins. "She does not mind contact in the post
and we look for her to be a solid rebounder/defender as well as
scorer for us next year. Adrienne is also an outstanding
student-athlete and we look forward to her joining our Campbell
family next season."
"Our
staff is extremely excited to find that there was an almost instant
fit with these young ladies and our team as they made their
official visits to our campus," said Watkins. "We believe they will
be great assets to the continual growth in our women's basketball
program here at Campbell due to their playing potential and their
wonderful representation of their high schools and
communities."
The
Lady Camels kick off the 2002-03 season on Friday, November 22 as
they host Appalachian State in Carter Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The
Lady Camels were picked to tie for third in the North Division
earlier in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll.
