Stetson Nips Campbell 72-69

DeLand, FLA. -- Ricky McConnell tied career-highs with 22 points and 14 rebounds, but it was Ravii Givens' baseline jumper with 18 seconds left that lifted Stetson to a 72-69 victory over Campbell in an Atlantic Sun Conference game Saturday night at the Edmunds Center.
Stetson (9-11, 6-8 A-Sun) wins for the fourth time in its last five games while earning a split in the season series with Campbell (6-15, 4-10 A-Sun).
The Hatters had led by as many as 11 in the first half, but Campbell came back to take a 41-40 halftime lead.
The lead changed hands nine times and the game was tied five times in the second half, including a 66-66 count with 3:50 to play. McConnell's offensive rebound and putback gave the Hatters a two-point lead, but a free throw by Brooks Lee and a third-chance tip-in by Jonte' Edwards put the Camels ahead 69-68 with 1:00 remaining.
Two possessions later, Givens grabbed a loose ball and drove to the right baseline before tossing in the go-ahead basket. Adam Fellers and Dominique Klein both had three-point opportunities but could not convert as Stetson escaped with a key conference victory.
Stetson's Alexis McMillan scored 10 points, all in the second half, before fouling out in the final minute. Derrick DeWitt finished with 12 points and Santos Hampton chipped in 10.
Tarick Johnson led the Camels with 16 points, and Zydrunas Stankus added 11. The Hatters owned a 43-28 edge in rebounding.
With six games remaining, Campbell now trails Stetson by two games for the eighth and final spot in the Atlantic Sun tournament. Campbell defeated the Hatters 91-82 last month in Buies Creek.
The Hatters will host Georgia State on Monday while Campbell will visit Jacksonville.
