O'Neill, Usandizaga and Holmes Earn All-Conference Honors

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Three members of the Campbell 2001-02 A-Sun Championship women's squad that will compete in the NCAA West Regional this week were selected for all-conference recognition. The Lady Camels are making their sixth-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Sharon O'Neill was named to the All-Atlantic Sun first-team, while Josefina Usandizaga was a second-team selection. Michelle Holmes was tabbed for the A-Sun All-Freshman team.
Last week, Campbell's John Crooks was named Atlantic Sun Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.
Junior Sharon O'Neill received first-team all-conference honors for the third-consecutive year. The Mackay, Australia native led the team with a 76.9 stroke average over 26 rounds while playing in all 10 tournaments. She is ranked 110th nationally in latest May 1 Golfstat Cup listing.
O'Neill finished fifth at the Atlantic Sun Championship on Apr. 17 to earn all-tournament honors for third-straight season. She tied the school-record with a career-low 68 (on a par-73 course) in the final round of the A-Sun tournament and finished the event at 229 (83-78-68). O'Neill carded seven top-10 individual finishes during the 2001-02 campaign. She placed third at South Florida Waterlefe Invitational in March and at the Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate in November.
Campbell has reached an NCAA Regional in each of O'Neill's three seasons with the squad. She advanced to the 2000 NCAA Championship after placing fifth at the NCAA East Regional that year.
Sophomore Josefina Usandizaga gained second-team All-Atlantic Sun honors for the second year in a row. The Tandil, Argentina native won her first collegiate individual title on Apr. 2 in the Fighting Camel Classic (75-74-14). She then placed fourth at the A-Sun Championship on Apr. 17 with an eight-over-par 227 (73-77-77) to earn a spot on the all-tournament team and lead CU to its second-straight conference title.
Usandizaga posted a 78.15 stroke average to rate second on team over 26 rounds. She is ranked 202nd nationally in the latest Golfstat Cup standings. Usandizaga tied her career-best round with a 71 at the Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate in November.
Mayo, Ireland native Michelle Holmes earned a place on the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. She played in five events during the year and fashioned an 83.3 stroke average. Holmes carded a low round of 78 on two occasions. Her best finish was a 23rd-place showing at the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate in her first collegiate outing. A former member of the Ireland Under-18 team, Holmes won two All-Ireland titles during her junior career.
