CONWAY,
S.C. - On the strength of hot shooting from behind the arc, the
Coastal Carolina Lady Chanticleers defeated the Lady Camels, 77-53,
Tuesday night in Kimbel Arena.
Coastal Carolina (2-0) hit 10-of-16 from three-point range for the
game, sparked by a 4-for-4 performance from Courtney Brown who
finished with a game-high 22 points. Nikki Reddick added 14 points
for the Lady Chants, including a 3-for-6 performance from
downtown.
The Lady Chants took a 19-8 lead with 12:10 remaining in the first
half, as five of their first seven shots were three-balls, two from
Reddick.
After a Campbell timeout at 7:28, sophomore Chantel Martin hit a
three to cut the Coastal lead down to nine. Junior Kristal Troy and
freshman Tomika Tomlinson each hit a free throw to make the score
24-17, but that was the closest the game would be as Coastal
finished the half with a 16-to-5 run.
The Lady Camels (1-1) did hold a 14-to-6 scoring edge in the paint
at half-time behind the strength of freshman forward Jennifer
Lodge's six points. Martin gave the Campbell offense a spark as she
came off the bench to score five points in the first half.
Brown scored all 10 of her second half points in the first seven
minutes as she led Coastal Carolina on a 25-to-6 run to start the
half. Troy was the high-scorer for Campbell, scoring eight of her
nine points in the second half. She also finished the game with a
career-high four steals.
The Chants out rebounded the Lady Camels 34-to-27 for the game, but
held a 24-to-7 rebound advantage on missed Campbell shots.
Campbell struggled from both the free throw line, 14-of-28 (.500),
and behind the arc, 3-of-13 (.231), after normally shooting 42
percent from three-point range. Coastal Carolina finished the night
shooting 63 percent from downtown and 74 percent (17-23) from the
charity stripe.
The Lady Camels will next play High Point on Saturday, Nov. 30 in
Buies Creek as part of a double-head with the men's team. The
women's team will tip-off at noon, while the men tip-off against
Coastal Carolina at 3:30.
