BUIES CREEK, N.C.
- The Radford Highlanders (4-3 overall) put together a 22-to-6 run
during a seven minute stretch of the second half to pull away from
the Campbell University women's basketball team, 80-67, Tuesday
night in Carter Gym. All five Radford starters scored in
double-figures.
After trading baskets and making small runs for much of the game,
both squads were tied at 52 points with 9:57 remaining. Freshman
Tomika Tomlinson hit a three pointer to give the Lady Camels (1-4
overall) their first lead of the game, 55-52. The Highlanders would
begin to pull away, sparked by a Ludmila Nicheporchuk trey pushing
the RU lead to 74-61.
Points in the paint were key in the first half as junior Kristal
Troy, freshman Jenn Lodge, and sophomore Sarah Fox were a combined
9-of-17 from the field. Radford's size in the paint was obvious
early on as forward Sherri Rickman and center Brandy Allen went
8-for-8 combined in the first half, finishing the game 15-of-17
from the field.
Hanna Statsenka was the only Radford player to score other than the
starters who were led by Allen's 18 points and Rickman's
career-high 17 points.
The Lady Camels had a trio of record setting performances as Troy
scored 23 points, Tomlinson scored 17, and sophomore Fox hit for 11
points. This was Fox's first action after missing the first two
months of the season with injury. This also marked the first game
this season where three players scored in double figures for
CU.
Campbell will next travel to Western Carolina on Dec. 20 to take
on the Catamounts of Western Carolina. Tip-off is set for 7:00
p.m.
