Campbell Finishes Sixth at A-Sun Women's Golf Championship; Ends Two-Year Title Run

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Campbell University shot a final round 314 and finished sixth at the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday, ending a two-year run atop the league.
Georgia State led all three days and finished with a 54-hole total of 903, 18 strokes better than second-place Florida Atlantic, to win its first-ever A-Sun crown. GSU's Lisbeth Meincke defeated teammate Sam White in a playoff for individual honors after the duo tied at four-over-par 220.
Jacksonville State (922) finished third, one stroke behind FAU, while UCF was fourth and Stetson fifth in the 12-school field.
Campbell senior Sharon O'Neill and freshman Sofia Gorelik tied for 11th place at 232. Junior Josefina Usandizaga finished 20th (236).
Campbell's sixth-place league finish was its lowest in women's golf since joining the A-Sun (then known as the Trans America Athletic Conference) prior to the 1994-95 academic year. Coach John Crooks' team has won five A-Sun titles (2002, 2001, 1998, 1997, 1996) and finished second on three other occasions (2000, 1999, 1995) in its nine years in the league.
