Jacksonville State Stops Lady Camels 82-68

JACKSONVILLE, ALA. - Jacksonville State's Shanika Freeman scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Gamecocks held off Campbell, 82-68, Saturday at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Lady Camels (5-8, 1-1 A-Sun) trailed at halftime, 32-40, despite shooting 50 percent from the floor and 67 percent from downtown (4-of-6).

Freeman hit 6-of-8 from the field in the first half, going into intermission with 15 points. Freshman Jenn Lodge finished the first half with seven points for Campbell.

Kelly Nye, scoreless in the first half, hit two three pointers sparking an 18-to-4 run by JSU to push its lead to 20, 58-38. Sophomore Sarah Fox hit a trey with 3:48 remaining to cap a 22-to-8 Campbell run, bringing the Lady Camels within six points. But Freddricka Embry answered on JSU's next possession followed by a Katja Fuess layup to retake a 10 point lead for the Gamecocks.

Despite shooting just over 46 percent from the field and 53 percent from beyond the arc, Campbell was forced to start fouling with 2:27 remaining and down 62-70.

Jacksonville State (8-5, 3-0 A-Sun) converted 12-of-13 free throws down the stretch, holding on for its third straight A-Sun win.

Along with Lodge, who narrowly missed her second career double-double by one rebound, three other Lady Camels scored in double figures -- junior Terra Guandolo, sophomore Chantel Martin, and Fox each had 10 points on the afternoon.

The Lady Camels return to action on Monday in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Georgia State.
