- Senior Jessica Stanley scored a career-high 21 points to lead the
Campbell women's basketball team to a thrilling overtime victory
over Belmont, 67-64, Saturday afternoon in Carter Gym.
The Lady Camels (7-9, 3-2 A-Sun) out scored the Bruins 12-9 in the
bonus period. Stanley scored six points in overtime, providing a
stellar performance for the second straight game. She finished the
night with 21 points, nine boards, two blocks and two assists.
Campbell held a 28-21 lead at half time, but saw Belmont storm out
in the second half going on a 12-4 run to go up 33-32. Belmont's
Chasity Campbell scored six of her 12 points in that run.
With 2:45 remaining in regulation, junior Kristal Troy nailed a
three pointer to give CU a 48-46 lead and spark a 7-0 run. The
Bruins would hang tough in the final minutes and tie the game at 55
each as Hollie Davis hit a driving lay-up with 1.4 second left to
force overtime.
Belmont (11-5, 2-3 A-Sun) fell behind by four points, 57-61, but
Missy Walker converted a four-point play, hitting deep three
pointer and a free throw after being fouled on the shot by CU
junior Terra Guandolo.
It was all Stanley in the final minute of the game. Stanley hit a
lay-up and a 15-foot jumper from the left baseline before sealing
the game with two free throws with eight seconds left.
Walker's last second three point shot just missed off the right
side of the rim as time expired and Campbell escaped with its
fourth consecutive home win.
For Campbell, Troy scored 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Guandolo
chipped in five points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Belmont's Natalie Brown led all scorers with 23 points, while
Brandi Miller recorded a double-double of 11 points and a
career-high 17 rebounds.
Campbell will next travel to Florida as they take on Stetson
(1/30) and Jacksonville (2/1). Tip-off for the Stetson game is
scheduled for 7:00 p.m., while the Jacksonville game will get
underway at 2:00 p.m. Belmont will next host UCF in Nashville,
Tenn. on Jan. 30.
