Camel Basketball Signs Latoya Armstrong to
Squad
BUIES
CREEK, N.C. - Standout point guard Latoya Armstrong signed a
National Letter of Intent to play with the Campbell University
women's basketball team Wednesday announced Head Coach Wanda
Watkins today.
"Latoya
is a fierce competitor and a natural born leader. She plays with a
huge heart and makes everyone around her better with her
outstanding passing ability," said Watkins. "She can score both on
the drive and the perimeter and truly possesses the qualities that
are essential in a playmaker."
Armstrong,
a 5-foot-3 point guard from Rocky Mount, N.C., was the 2002 Big
East Conference Player of the Year and was only the fourth player
in Rocky Mount Senior High history to top the 1,000-point plateau.
In her senior season with coach Pam Ganiey's Gryphon squad, she
averaged 14.2 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
A
three-time team MVP and all-conference selection, Armstrong led
Rocky Mount to four Big East Championships during her career.
The
daughter of Grady Armstrong and Gwen Johnson, she also played for
the Triangle Knights 17-under AAU basketball squad.
According
to Watkins, "She is a well-rounded student-athlete and bubbles over
with personality. She has a winner's mentality and is competitive
in whatever she tackles. Some would perceive her small in stature
as she stands 5-foot-3, however, our staff believes there will be
great things to come from her package."
