Wynns and Hedlund Earn Atlantic Sun All-Conference Honors
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
Campbell University juniors Braxton Wynns and Ulf Hedlund
have earned Atlantic Sun Conference men's golf all-conference
honors for the 2002-03 academic year.
The A-Sun Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year are voted on
by league head coaches. The first and second team all-conference
honorees are based on the GolfStat rankings compiled at the
conclusion of the A-Sun Championship.
Wynns, a junior from Buies Creek, was named to the men's
first-team all-conference unit. His 72.63 stroke average was the
fourth-best among A-Sun golfers during the 2002-03 season. Wynns
earned A-Sun all-conference honors for the third-straight year. He
was a first-team all-league and all-freshman team selection in
2001, then gained second-team status in 2002.
This season, Wynns captured one tournament title
Campbell's Lonnie D. Small Memorial, and had five top-10 individual
finishes on the year. At one point, he scored par or better in
eight-consecutive competitive rounds.
Hedlund ranked eighth among A-Sun golfers with a 73.21 stroke
average and earned second-team all-conference honors. The junior
from Borlange, Sweden was the team's low finisher in six of its 11
events during 2002-03. He won the Seton Hall/Rutgers Collegiate
Classic and placed second at the Old Dominion Seascape Collegiate
last October. During the spring, he was second at the Lonnie D.
Small Memorial and finished sixth at the Beau Chene Collegiate and
Belmont Invitational.
Matias Anselmo of Jacksonville State, who posted a 71.52
stroke average and finished second in the league championship, was
named A-Sun Men's Golf Player of the Year. UCF's Stefan Wistorf,
who won the A-Sun Championship in a league-record 13-under-par, was
named A-Sun Men's Golf Freshman of the Year.
James Hobbs of Jacksonville State was voted A-Sun Men's Golf
Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a second-straight
league crown and NCAA Regional berth.
Joining Wynns, Anselmo and Wistorf on the first team were Ty
Harris and Kasper Jorgenson of Georgia State. In addition to
Hedlund, second-team all-conference members were Adam Barker of
Belmont, Jose Campra and Nick Mackey of Jacksonville State, and
Jason Henley from Mercer.
Wistorf led the A-Sun All-Freshman team that included Patricio
Cozzoli of Jacksonville State, Sonny Nimkhum of UCF, Brandon Price
of Mercer and Josh Thackerson of Gardner-Webb.
